Authentic Assessment and Digital Media in the Classroom
February 4th and 5th, 2011
Yokohama, Japan

Description: An EARCOS weekend workshop led by Andrew Churches and Kim Cofino to help teachers understand how to successfully and enjoyably bring the exciting world of digital media into the classroom environment.

Description: An educational conference focusing on technology and change in the classroom rather than on teaching a set of tools to use in the classroom. The focus of the conference is about how to change classrooms to improve learning and how students can become valuable participants in the world of 2012 and beyond.

Description: Focused on leadership to efficiently explore and harness the power of technology to maximize learning, improve teacher effectiveness, and reinvent school-wide systems.  Explored the practical aspects of technology and curriculum, professional learning communities, classroom practice, ‘change’ and teacher supervision and evaluation.

Description: An interactive event for education leaders committed to finding innovative ways to help teachers teach and students learn.

Hong Kong, China

Description: Based on current research and best practices, the workshop facilitated a hands-on, learner-centric experience for educators to explore the current and emerging trends for digital learning, and what it means to be a learner in the 21st century classroom. This workshop explored issues facing administration and to understand how technology can be used to meet the needs of next generation learners.

ASCD Understanding by Design (UbD)
September 18th and 19th, 2010
American International School of Guangzhou, China

Description: Two-day, 15 hour ACSD approved EARCOS Weekend Workshop focused on developing UbD curricular units, including developing essential questions, enduring understandings, and assessment.  Units developed for use on Atlas Rubicon.

Building Academic Language for English Learners With Dr. Gini Rojas
September 10th and 11th, 2010
Shekou International School, Shenzhen, China

Description: Two-day EARCOS Workshop focused on developing time-honored EAL strategies, strategies for increasing English Learners’ vocabulary usage, reading comprehension, and writing engagement, and strategies for differentiating instruction in mainstream content-area classes.

Inquiry Learning Partnership: 2005-2007

  • M.A. at the University of San Diego in Mathematics, Science and Technology Education.
  • A teacher training program modeled after the Fleet Inquiry Institute and funded through a California Mathematics and Science Partnership Grant (CaMSP) designed to increase student academic achievement through the deepening of teacher content knowledge and inquiry-based pedagogy.
